With temperatures rising across Dorset and the South West, Help and Kindness is working urgently to compile a county-wide directory of “Cool Spaces” – places where people can find respite from the heat and stay safe during periods of extreme weather.
A Cool Space is a welcoming place where people can find relief from hot weather and stay comfortable during periods of high temperatures. These spaces may include community venues such as libraries, village halls, community centres, places of worship, and other publicly accessible buildings that offer a cooler indoor environment. Cool Spaces can provide a safe place to rest, stay hydrated, and avoid the health risks associated with excessive heat. They are especially helpful for older people, young children, people with health conditions, and anyone who may find it difficult to keep cool at home.
