Join us in our festive countdown of community kindness

This festive season, we are inviting everyone across Dorset to join us for our social media countdown, “12 Little Things to Stay Well”, celebrating the small, meaningful acts that help people feel well, supported, and connected.

Starting on the 14th December, each day we will spotlight one “little thing” that is making a big difference in our communities, alongside the local people and organisations who make it happen.

At the heart of this campaign is a simple idea: wellbeing grows when we give a little. A little time. A little compassion. A little support. Across Dorset, individuals, volunteers, and community groups are quietly offering these gifts every day, and together they create an environment where everyone can belong.

Day 1

Give a little care

Gillingham Mindful Memory Café is opening its doors for a festive session on Tuesday 16 December, 10am, at Gillingham Social Club.

Day 2

Give a little kindness

The Reptile Academy helps young people build confidence through hands-on animal care and learning.

Day 3

Give a little care

The Family Matters Baby Bank helps local families with clothes, toys and essential items for babies and pre-schoolers.

Day 4

Give a little self-belief

The Colour Works Foundation use their own colour profiling system with young people to raise their self awareness and relationship management skills.

Day 5

Give a little togetherness

The Bluetit Chill Swimmers offer a free, welcoming community where people can enjoy the benefits of cold-water dipping in a safe and friendly environment.

Day 6

Give a little hope

The Friendly Food Club supports people from vulnerable groups across Dorset by building their cooking skills, healthy eating habits, confidence and resilience.

Day 9

Give a little help

Dorset Race Equality Council made me feel that my life mattered. Now I feel hopeful about my future and empowered to deal with public services.”

Day 10

Give a little support

Access Wellbeing drop-in spaces are open to anyone over the age of 18. They are staffed by friendly wellbeing coordinators who can offer a listening ear and help people to find support with the challenges that can make life feel overwhelming, such as housing, work, or money worries. No appointment is needed.

Day 11

Give a little calm

Being cooped up over winter can sometimes feel a bit much for children, and for parents too! Today’s Little Thing is a short activity from Stormbreak to help everyone pause, breathe and feel calm. This gentle movement video is designed for children, but many tired adults may find it helpful as well!

Day 12

Give a little togetherness

Merry Christmas from NHS Dorset.

The festive season can sometimes be tough.

If you are struggling to cope or feel yourself nearing a breakdown, there is mental health support available this Christmas.
