The Friendly Food Club

The Friendly Food Club makes a difference to thousands of individuals in Dorset.

Cooking is not only a skill for life, health and wellbeing but the sessions provide opportunities to make new social contact and build friendships and communities.

The Friendly Food Club was officially formed in 2013, but it’s origins can be traced back all the way to 2003, when founder Tony Gibbons started a stall at Bridport Market.

Each year, the club helps over 8,300 people learn how to cook cheap, honest food from basic ingredients. It’s run by a team of nine tutors and 14 dedicated volunteers, including Raksha and Claire.

We support local groups by cooking food or helping others to learn to cook. We often find that neighbours make others food [which] is an amazing thing to do over the winter.’ – Liz, CEO

I love learning new dishes and sharing your own food and experience.’ – Raksha, volunteer

It’s a good feeling to think that we’re making a difference, even if it’s a small one, to improving our participant’s understanding of making and eating nutritious food.’ – Claire, volunteer
