NHS England has shared an update reminding people that flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are still available on the high street this winter.

Many community pharmacies are offering walk-in or pre-booked appointments, making it easier for people to get protected while they are out shopping over the Black Friday weekend.

The national NHS message highlights that winter viruses continue to circulate and can lead to serious illness, especially for older people, pregnant women, and those with long-term conditions.

A promotional NHS Dorset graphic. The text reads: “Catch a bargain not a bug” with NHS jabs available on the high street this Black Friday. The image shows three generations of a family smiling – a young girl, her mother, and an older woman. The NHS logo appears in the top right corner, and the web address www.staywelldorset.nhs.uk/vaccinations is shown at the bottom.

Getting vaccinated reduces the risk of becoming very unwell and helps protect friends, family and the wider community.

If you are eligible for a free NHS vaccination, you can book an appointment through your GP surgery, local pharmacy or the NHS website. Paid options are also available in some pharmacies for people who are not eligible for an NHS vaccine.

Martin Sale, Lead Pharmacist for Vaccinations with NHS Dorset said,

As we go into the colder months, we are already seeing an earlier rise in the rates of flu when compared to previous years.

“This means that flu could already be circulating within your community. The best way to protect yourself and loved ones from this virus is to get your flu vaccine as soon as you can.

“There are various options to get your flu vaccine today, and these can be found via the NHS website, and the StayWell Dorset page.”
