Unpaid carers across Weymouth and Portland are invited to a special Health and Wellbeing Fair this Thursday 20 November. There will be blood pressure checks, financial advice, and free flu vaccinations available to help people stay well this winter.
The drop-in event takes place from 9.30am to 11.30am at the Wellworthy Social Club, Weymouth, DT4 9BY.
It is part of national Carers Rights Day, which this year focuses on helping carers understand their rights and the support available to them.
Flu can be serious, especially for people who look after a family member or friend. Being unwell can make caring harder, and unpaid carers are eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination. Having the vaccination also helps protect the person they care for.
The fair will bring together local organisations offering:
- Free flu vaccinations for unpaid carers.
- Blood pressure checks.
- Information about financial support and carers’ benefits.
- Introductions to social opportunities and community groups.
- Guidance on the health services carers are entitled to.
The event is open to all unpaid carers, with no need to book.
Lauren Magill, Care Coordinator Team Lead for for Weymouth and Portland Primary Care Network said,
“The Weymouth and Portland PCN teams are proud to come together with community services to celebrate and showcase the incredible support available to unpaid carers in our area.
“We extend a heartfelt thank you to Help & Kindness for partnering with us to ensure carers who might otherwise struggle to attend were able to join this event.
“As Care Coordinators, we regularly reach out to carers through their GP surgeries, but we know many more remain unaware of the help and support they are entitled to.”
This Carers Rights Day, our goal is to raise awareness of the resources available, highlight the communities that carers can connect with, and share an important message: You matter as a carer. Your health matters. Your rights matter. Support is here for you.”
