The NHS in Dorset has launched a colourful new campaign encouraging people to learn more about norovirus, including how to stop the spread and what to do if you or your child catches it.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea. Although you can catch it at any time, it tends to be more common in winter and is very easy to spread, especially in places like schools, care homes and hospitals. For this reason, it’s extremely important you are clear of symptoms for at least 48 hours before visiting a hospital, care home or general practice.

The campaign site shares tips on staying clear of the bug and stopping it from spreading, such as washing your hands well and keeping clothing, bedding and surfaces clean.

It also provides information on what to do if you catch norovirus, including staying home, drinking plenty of fluids, getting lots of rest, and what to do if you have a planned hospital or GP appointment.

If you are worried about yours or your child’s symptoms, call 111 for advice.
