Hot weather can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

How to stay safe in hot weather

There are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and others during this period of extreme heat:

  • Avoid the hottest times (11am–3pm)
  • Drink plenty of fluids and limit alcohol
  • Keep your home cool (close curtains by day, open windows at night)
  • Wear light clothing, a hat and sunscreen
  • Check on others, especially older people and those with health conditions

Know the warning signs

  • Heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, nausea, sweating
  • Heatstroke (serious): confusion or very high temperature

Get medical help straight away if someone is very unwell.
