Meningitis cases in Weymouth

Meningitis cases in Weymouth2026-04-17T15:47:50+01:00

There have been a small number of meningitis B cases among young people in Weymouth. All those affected are receiving treatment and are recovering well.

The risk to the wider public is very low. Meningitis does not spread easily, and outbreaks are rare.

Extra steps are already in place to protect young people. As an additional precautionary measure, antibiotics and MenB vaccination will now be offered to young people currently in school years 7 to 13 across the Weymouth, Portland and Chickerell areas of Dorset.

Anyone who is eligible will be contacted directly by the NHS.

Schools remain open, and pupils and staff should attend as normal if they are well.
